NEW ORLEANS By Thursday morning, the fire trucks and other first responders were gone from the Gentilly Ridge apartments on Chef Menteur Highway.
What remained was a wet, charred mess and questions about what sparked the four-alarm fire and what was next for the displaced residents, many of whom said they had nothing left and nowhere to go.

A large fire broke out at an apartment complex near the Industrial Canal in New Orleans East Wednesday night.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but it appears to have broken out at or near the Gentilly Ridge apartment complex off of Chef Menteur Highway.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans Police are investigating a double shooting in New Orleans East Friday afternoon.
NOPD reported the shooting around 4:35 p.m.
Officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 6000 block of Chef Menteur Highway. When they arrived at the scene, they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital by EMS where one victim is being treated for a gunshot wound to the foot and the other is being treated for a gunshot wound to the face.
