Kishan Reddy on Wednesday assured the people of Secunderabad Cantonment that he would speak with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and see that the Cantonment Hospital here is converted into a full fledged COVID care centre. The Minister was visibly irked with the Secunderabad Cantonment Board authorities for not making use of the new buildings kept under lock and pointed out that the government has given freedom to recruit retired or ex-paramedical staff and doctors to be employed again if there is a shortage of personnel.

The Ministry had earlier extended the tenure of the elected members twice for six months each and with the election notification not issued, a Varied Board consisting of president Brigadier Abhijit Chandra, who is also Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Sub Area Commander; Chief Executive Officer B. Ajith Reddy; and a nominated civilian member will take charge.

Hyderabad: The much awaited merger of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will have wait for a while longer. The meeting in the SCB that was expected to see elected representatives give their approval to merge with the GHMC was not conducted on Thursday. “We are awaiting orders from the ministry of defence (MoD). Once the orders are issued, it would go to the Directorate General of Defence Estates (DGDE) and other departments. It is only after their approval that we can take the matter forward and give our opinion,” said J. Maheshwar Reddy, elected representative of the SCB.
