He is survived by wife Bindi, daughter Sandhya and son Rahul. Well-known poet, historian, author and retired bureaucrat Narendra Luther passed away on Tuesday morning at a private hospital. He was 88 and ailing for some time. “He was not keeping well. He had a fracture and has been in hospital for some time. He gave up the fight today,” said a family member.
He is survived by wife Bindi, daughter Sandhya and son Rahul. Born in Hoshiarpur in Punjab in 1932, he began his stint in Indian administrative service in Kurnool in1956 and was posted to Hyderabad in 1959. Mr Luther quickly developed a fondness for Hyderabad’s history and took to the city with his knowledge of Urdu.

SECUNDERABAD: Telangana Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali said that recruitment for 20,000 police posts would be filled by the State Government by next year. The Home Minister inaugurated a new building of theKarkhana police station under the North Zone limit in the city on Wednesday morning. Speaking on this occasion, he said that since the past six years more than 27,000 police personnel recruitments had been completed. Keeping in mind the safety of women in the State, SHE teams and Bharosa Centres were established, he said, and that these numbers would also be increased further.

Secunderabad’s iconic clock tower is chiming again. After the recent restoration of the Mozamjahi Market, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is now restoring the historic clock tower.
Ramesh Swiss Watch Gallery, a 60-year-old city-based company has worked to repair and restore the clock and it can now be seen chiming.
The clock tower was constructed in 1896 in the land gifted by the British Government honouring the Secunderabad Cantonment in 1860. The tower was inaugurated In 1897 by Resident Sir Trevor John Chichele Plowden and the clock was a gift from Dewan Bahadur Seth Lachmi Narayan Ramgopal.
