Gonzaga’s #2 ranked recruiting class is going to take a small hit. After Michael Foster Jr made his decision, it seems that Fanbo Zeng has now signed with G League Ignite. A four-star prospect out of Windermere, FL via China, the 6-foot-10 power forward has turned heads for quite some time. It seemed he would be the lastest overseas prospect to go to Gonzaga. Now he will be turning pro and headed to Walnut Creek, CA.
Shams Charania had the scoop.
Fanbo Zeng, China’s top basketball prospect, is decommitting from Gonzaga and planning to join the NBA G League Ignite, sources tell @TheAthletic@Stadium.https://t.co/Qh9FEhvDRM

When Chet Holmgren committed to Gonzaga earlier this week, it didn't just squash the dreams of the Gophers landing their first five-star recruit in almost two decades. It was the end of an era.
The 7-foot Minnehaha Academy senior and No. 1-ranked prospect in the Class of 2021 was one of seven players ranked five stars the state of Minnesota produced since 2017, with at least one per year.
Next year's in-state class is deep with Division I talent but 2022 and beyond right now lacks that same type of national star power.
"There are no elite, five-star kids in 2022," Prep Hoops national recruiting analyst Ryan James said. "You could tell Matthew Hurt, Chet, Jalen [Suggs] and Tre and Tyus [Jones] were five-star kids early in their careers."

None of this is too surprising. The Zags beat out the likes of Baylor and Arizona for his services in the first place, and considering former assistant coach Tommy Lloyd is now the current head coach at Arizona, the pieces were in place for Ballo to follow.
Ballo arrived as part of an embarrassment of large riches that was the Class of 2019, alongside Drew Timme, Anton Watson, and Pavel Zakharov. With both Timme and Watson establishing themselves as regulars in the rotation, the same could not be said for Ballo.
He was forced to sit his freshman season as the NCAA worked through academic issues on his transfer. Last season, with the expectations of the world on his broad shoulders, Ballo displayed flashes of his potential at times, but more often than not, he showcased the work that still needs to be done. Although Ballo shot 62.9 percent from the floor, he often struggled to corral the passes into the post.

The Bears throttled the Bulldogs, 86-70, winning Baylor's first national title in program history. The loss marked Gonzaga's (31-1) only defeat of the season, four months after the two schools' regular-season game was canceled due to COVID-19.
