I first encountered Thomas Cahill in the reading requirements for ninth grade history, where Mr. Dachille’s designation of Cahill’s book The Gifts of the Jews as a substitute for the dry textbooks to which I was accustomed instantly granted him canonical stature in my mind. And for good reason: Cahill’s accessible and fascinating takes on the histories of the Irish, the Jews, Jesus Christ, the Greeks, and the Middle Ages (Volumes I-V of his Hinges of History series) have, besides reaching bestseller lists in the U.S. and beyond, reconditioned us as to how we ought to be learning and thinking about the history of the Western world. Monica Henson, EdD has been named SAD 17’s new superintendent of schools. She officially starts in her post on July 1.

PARIS Incoming Oxford Hills superintendent Monica Henson, EdD, studied law, French and education. She has worked in rural and urban settings, from Sunday School to juvenile justice. She has managed different administrative levels in school systems in the southeast and northeast.
She has been a volleyball and basketball referee, and notably the first woman to referee a varsity boys’ basketball game in the state of Georgia. Interspersed with her 35-year career she was a stay-at-home mom, raising a family of five children. She understands the importance of strong mentorship.

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Board of Trustees recently approved the appointment of Yeurys Pujols as the College’s inaugural Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). The appointment will be effective July 1, 2021.
HCCC President Dr. Chris Reber recommended the appointment, in consultation with the Board of Trustees Executive Committee, based on Mr. Pujols’ leadership experience; support of the College’s nationally distinctive diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives; and feedback from many members of the College community.
