WAYNE William Paterson University will hold a combination of in-person and virtual graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2021.
Almost 2,400 students will have bachelor s, master s, and doctoral degrees conferred to them at the online event, set for May 14. That will be followed by 11 on-campus events, each expected to last an hour, between Monday and Wednesday of the ensuing week.
It is the second straight year that the university has improvised graduation plans amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
New Jersey colleges are dealing with the situation in different ways.
Montclair State University will spread out several in-person ceremonies over a week, while Seton Hall University will hold two events on May 20, and a third on May 25, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. Rutgers, meanwhile, will celebrate its graduating class in a virtual format.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – Dale Caldwell, a driving force on the Board of Education for more than two decades, will be named its new president at tonight’s reorganization meeting, TAPinto New Brunswick has learned.
Jennifer Sevilla is also expected to be chosen by a vote of the other board members as the vice president.

Former Gov. Chris Christie, whose lobbying firm was paid $1.3 million last year to represent special interests in the nation’s capital, no longer represents any clients in Washington, Senate filings show.
Christie 55 Solutions LLC filed termination reports for all of its clients after being paid $180,000 by them during the first three months of 2021. It did not file to represent any new clients.
The former governor and his firm did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
While there has been no formal announcement, ending his stint as a Washington lobbyist would remove one of line of attack against Christie should he seek the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, which he has not ruled out.
