Spalding newsagent is the victim of lockdown raiders  | Updated: 17:19, 16 February 2021 A newsagents has been attacked by raiders twice in less than a month. Classic News owners Asgar Vanparekh and Abbas Laxmidhar have been forced to put additional security measures on the exterior of their historic Market Place shop following the latest incidents. Thieves smashed a pane of glass in the door to get into the store on January 26 to raid the till and other items, and that was followed by another attempt on Monday last week. Mr Vanparekh and Mr Laxmidhar were forced to close their Sheep Market branch of Classic News a couple of years ago after it became unviable following regular break-ins.

Still hope for Spalding town centre despite empty units  | Updated: 17:23, 16 February 2021 Spalding town centre now has a total of 10 empty shops. Calls have been made for lower rents to attract more independent traders and make the town a destination place. Last week it was announced that Dorothy Perkins is facing closure after the chain was bought by Boohoo leading to around 2,450 job losses nationally. Trader Emma Peake, who runs Daisies Flower Shop in The Crescent, is hopeful that the town could become similar to the likes of Wells-next-the-Sea and Holt, in North Norfolk.
