It will cost more than $73 million over the next two years just to revamp Florida s troubled unemployment system, with a total cost of up to $244 million over five years when you add maintenance into the equation.
That s the word from Department of Economic Opportunity Executive Director Dane Eagle.
He told the Senate Select Committee on Pandemic Preparedness and Response yesterday that retaining the current system is not an option.
The CONNECT online system cost $78 million to create in 2013, but became overwhelmed in the initial weeks of the coronavirus pandemic, failing repeatedly last spring as businesses shut down and hundreds of thousands of residents attempted to file for unemployment assistance.
State Department of Economic Opportunity Executive Director Dane Eagle told a Florida Senate committee on Monday that the two-year cost to fix the troubled unemployment system alone would be over $73 million.
