On May 26, 2021, the Senate Finance Committee advanced the Clean Energy for America Act (S.1265, 117th Congress) to the full Senate on a party-line vote. The legislation, which is a component of President Biden s Build Back Better plan, would overhaul the federal energy tax code by consolidating more than 40 different energy tax incentives into a set of emissions-based provisions that encourage clean electricity, clean transportation, and energy efficiency.
The incentives would be available to all energy technologies as long as they meet emissions reduction goals. The bill was introduced by Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and 24 of his Democratic colleagues.

President Joe Biden’s proposed tax hikes are forecast to bring in $3.6 trillion over the next decade, the Treasury Department said Friday, a key funding source for the $4 trillion he hopes to spend remaking the American economy and social safety net.
The figure, representing the sum of all tax increases if enacted by Congress, came as is part of the Greenbook report that accompanied the White House’s $6 trillion 2022 budget request, also released on Friday. It effectively serves as the revenue side of the ledger, against Biden’s spending priorities in the budget.
“A one-time payment of $2,000 is simply not enough,” Rep. Ilhan Omar said in a statement. “The American people are counting on us to deliver transformative change, and we need to meet the moment by delivering monthly payments of $2,000.”
