AUSTIN Late-filed legislation to require sexual harassment training for lobbyists will be heard in House and Senate committees on Thursday, suggesting the measures are being fast-tracked in the final weeks of the session.
The measures, Senate Bill 2233, and House Bill 4461, come just days after the Texas Department of Public Safety launched a criminal investigation into whether a lobbyist gave a date-rape drug to a legislative staffer. It also comes on the heels of the speaker of the House denouncing the ongoing culture in the Capitol community that many say condones unwanted sexual aggression against women.
The legislation would require lobbyist to show they have completed a certified sexual harassment awareness course as part of their registration process,

The Texas Senate passed a bill that would classify gender confirmation surgeries as child abuse on Wednesday the most recent step in a continuing wave of support from the state’s majority party for anti-transgender laws this session.
Sponsored by over a dozen Senate Republicans, SB 1646 now awaits deliberation in the House. The bill received hours of testimony from opponents during its introduction in the Senate State Affairs Committee earlier this month.
During the same hearing, the committee also heard testimony on Sen. Bob Hall’s SB 1311, which would prohibit physicians from prescribing or performing gender reassignment procedures on children.

Donald Dahl, who’s been paying National Rifle Association dues since 1967, shuffled through the rotunda away from the House chamber at the Texas Capitol on April 15. That day was a long time coming for the mechanic and self-described “heavy-duty activist” from Round Rock, the Austin suburb. He had spent fifteen years hounding state lawmakers to expand gun rights. Like many grassroots Second Amendment enthusiasts, he couldn’t understand why Texas wasn’t one of the eighteen states that allowed citizens to carry a gun without a license or training. But finally, after years of campaigning on behalf of challengers to “wishy-washy” Republicans who never seemed to take up his cause, Dahl was relieved when the Texas House passed “permitless carry” on a 84–56 vote.
Texas Senate Passes Bill Protecting Joe Biden’s Gun Control Plans
AUSTIN, Texas (April 28, 2021) – Yesterday, the Texas Senate passed a bill that originally would have banned state and local enforcement of any new federal gun control, but amended it to essentially
support all new gun control measures coming from the Biden administration.
Sen. Bob Hall (R-Edgewood) introduced Senate Bill 513 (SB513) on Jan 28. This month, it garnered 6 additional cosponsors and the support of Gov. Greg Abbott.
As introduced, the proposed law would prohibit any Texas governmental agency, including state and local police departments, from contracting with or in any other manner providing assistance to a federal agency or official with respect to the enforcement of a federal statute, order, rule, or regulation purporting to regulate a firearm, a firearm accessory, or firearm ammunition if the statute, order, rule, or regulation imposes a prohibition, restriction, or other regulation, such as a
