(Bloomberg) New York Governor Andrew Cuomo rejected calls to step down in the wake of sexual assault and harassment claims, even as scores of state legislators and top Democrats called on him to leave office.
“I’m not going to resign,” he said during a call with reporters on Friday. “I was not elected by the politicians, I was elected by the people.”
Most of the Democrats who represent New York in the U.S. House called on him to resign Friday. The state’s two U.S. senators, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, joined them by day’s end.

Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand on Friday added their voices to the chorus of New York Democrats calling for Cuomo to resign.

The senators acted after Rep. Jerrold Nadler and other New York Dem members of Congress also called for Cuomo to leave.

Out of New York’s 56 governors, Sulzer is the only one, so far, that holds this distinction.
However, the reasons Sulzer was removed from office are much different than the scandals Governor Andrew Cuomo is facing.
The State Assembly Judiciary Committee has now launched an impeachment investigation as Cuomo is battling calls for his resignation for a growing number of sexual harassment allegations and his administration’s handling of nursing home data.
