(
Catherine Mortensen) – The governors of Texas and Mississippi both announced this week they would be lifting their states’ mask mandates and rolling back many of their Covid-19 health mandates. This is part of a growing movement across the country from lawmakers, governors, and citizens to curtail emergency orders that have robbed Americans of individual liberties and freedoms for nearly a year.
In New York state, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie announced the legislature is passing legislation repealing emergency powers granted to Gov. Cuomo last year at the start of the pandemic. Lawmakers say the legislation will allow current directives pertaining to preserving public health to continue.
Manhattan: Cuomo is a bully. Cuomo was a bully. My guess is that he will continue to be a bully that is who he is and how he governs. The polite term is “transactional.”
NY Assembly Speaker Approves Impeachment Probe as Calls Grow for Cuomo to Resign
NEW YORK New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said on Thursday he authorized its Judiciary Committee to start an “impeachment investigation” into sexual misconduct allegations six women have made against Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The panel’s investigation, which would run parallel to one being led by state Attorney General Letitia James, would be authorized to interview witnesses, subpoena documents and evaluate evidence, Heastie said.
“The reports of accusations concerning the governor are serious,” Heastie said in a statement.
Cuomo, 63, has denied all allegations by the women, most of whom are former aides. The most recent is an unnamed aide who told The Times-Union newspaper on Tuesday that Cuomo had groped her after calling her to the executive mansion last year under the pretext of business.

State Assembly Democrats took a first step Thursday toward impeaching Gov. Andrew Cuomo authorizing an investigation to determine whether there are grounds to remove him over multiple sexual harassment allegations and his handling of nursing home deaths.
In an online videoconference, Speaker Carl Heastie (D-The Bronx) told fellow Democratic Assembly members that the chamber’s judiciary committee will launch a probe to “examine allegations of misconduct” against the three-term governor.
The 21-member, bipartisan committee “will have the authority to interview witnesses, subpoena documents and evaluate evidence,” Heastie said in a statement. Related
Cuomo, who already faces investigations into the harassment and nursing home scandals, has denied any wrongdoing and has said there’s “no way” he’ll voluntarily step down.
