New York politicians are calling on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign following the release of the results of the scathing independent investigation conducted by the Attorney General s Office that found he was a serial sexual harasser.
On Tuesday, Aug. 3, New York AG Letitia James released the findings of a five-month independent investigation that found the governor allegedly fostered a toxic workplace environment while also subjecting state employees to unwanted touching and inappropriate dialogue.
In response, politicians from both sides of the aisle, women s groups, and New Yorkers are calling for Cuomo to step down and resign following the release of the report.

With New York Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie declaring that Cuomo has lost the confidence of the chamber’s Democratic majority and “can no longer remain in office,” it is only a matter of time before the governor is impeached and faces trial in the state Senate. Similar to the federal impeachment process, state senators would act as jurors, with a two-thirds vote required to force Cuomo’s removal.
In quirks of the state Constitution, Cuomo would be relieved of his powers during the trial, with Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul elevated to “acting governor” and judges on New York’s highest court, the Court of Appeals, would join senators as members of the jury. All seven are Cuomo appointees. 1982: Mario Cuomo wins governor s race
Now 24, Andrew Cuomo serves as his father s campaign manager as he makes a run for governor. Mario Cuomo goes on to defeat New York City Mayor Ed Koch in a primary, five years after Koch bested him in a mayoral primary.
Once his father takes office in 1983, Andrew Cuomo becomes a $1-a-year special adviser.
1986: Cuomo begins HELP USA
Now working as an attorney, Cuomo founds Housing Enterprise for the Less Privileged, or HELP USA, a non-profit dedicated to building housing projects for the homeless.
The work helps him become chair of the New York City Homeless Commission in the early 1990s.
