ALBANY – New York s moratorium on evictions during the COVID-19 pandemic will remain in place for another month even as the White House will allow the federal government s similar policy to expire at the end of July.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Thursday announced the Biden Administration intends to allow the federal moratorium to expire Saturday as scheduled, suggesting a Supreme Court ruling wouldn t allow it to be extended without congressional approval.
But the federal move won t have much impact in New York, where residential and commercial tenants remain protected by a state law halting evictions through Aug. 31.

ALBANY â Following in New York Cityâs footsteps, New York state is making vaccinations or regular COVID-19 testing mandatory for all state employees.
Additionally, all patient-facing front-line health care workers in state-run hospitals must be immunized, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday.
âI think we need dramatic action to get control of this situation,â the governor said during a virtual address delivered to members of the Association for a Better New York. âSo in New York, and in our state hospitals, all patient-facing health care workers must get vaccinated. There will be no testing option for patient-facing health care workers.
âThat is a point of contact that could be a serious spreading event, and we want to make sure those health care workers are vaccinated â period,â he added.

New York state will require state workers to be vaccinated by Labor Day or be tested weekly for COVID-19, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday.
At the same time, Cuomo encouraged local governments to take similar steps in New York, as well as school districts in areas where there are high COVID-19 positivity rates. Patient-facing health care workers at public run hospitals will also be required to be vaccinated, Cuomo said.
The move follows similar efforts expected to occur on the federal level by President Joe Biden s administration, which will set a similar mandate for federal workers and contractors.
