ALBANY – New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and top lawmakers reached a deal Tuesday on a $212 billion state budget that will raise taxes on the wealthy, make benefits available to undocumented immigrants and legalize mobile sports betting in the state.
Cuomo and the legislative leaders announced the agreement Tuesday afternoon, with the Legislature expected to debate and vote on the spending plan well into the night and into Wednesday morning.
Budget negotiations took place at a time where Cuomo, who has historically resisted calls to raise taxes on the state level, is politically weakened by multiple scandals, including allegations of sexual harassment from multiple staff members.
