Among those who voted against the proposal were Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon, Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto, Senators Panfilo Lacson, Nancy Binay, Pia Cayetano, Sherwin Gatchalian, Richard Gordon, Risa Hontiveros, Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao, Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Grace Poe, and Joel Villanueva. The proposal was part of Senate Bill No. 1832 or the proposed Act Strengthening and Modernizing the Bureau of Fire Protection, which was sponsored by Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa.
Prior to this, Drilon questioned the inclusion of the proposed amendment, noting that the proposal did not crop up during the plenary debates but was only presented during the period of amendments. The Senate on Wednesday adopted Resolution No. 643, introduced by Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Migz F. Zubiri, expressing the profound sympathy and sincere condolences of the Senate on the death of former Representative and Olongapo City Mayor James Bong Gordon Jr., the younger brother of Sen. Richard Gordon.
Gordon, a professional musician, died February 9, Tuesday, at the St. Lukes Medical Center. He was 73. He had a talent and passion for music, and he performed with his singing group called Houseboys, formed while he was in Congress, and with his band Bonggo, the resolution stated. The band released a record Fighting for Excellence which was recently certified Gold by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry.

Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III, in leading the chamber to honor the late Sen. Victor S. Ziga, says the former senator’s defining moment was when he voted against the extension of the United States Military Bases in the Philippines in September 1991. Incumbent and former Senators honor late Senator Victor S. Ziga
Incumbent and former senators honored former Sen. Victor S. Ziga, who passed away on January 31, 2021 at the age of 75, during a hybrid necrological service held at the Senate session hall Wednesday.
Ziga was accorded arrival honors led by Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III, the family of the former senator, and Senate officials.
The Senate President presented to the family of the late senator Senate Resolution No. (SRN) 84, expressing the profound sympathy and sincere condolences of the Senate on the death Ziga who served the chamber from 1987 to 1992.
