Weinberg, Addiego Bill to Establish Programs to Prevent Stillbirth Advances
Trenton – In response to the lack of resources for parents following a stillbirth, the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee approved legislation sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg and Senator Dawn Addiego, which would establish the “Stillbirth Resource Center” and other programs for the prevention and reduction of stillbirths.
“The loss of a child through stillbirth is a devastating and traumatic event for many families, but this type of loss is not widely recognized, leaving families with little support and resources to cope with this tragic loss,” said Senator Weinberg (D-Bergen). “Many medical providers lack the tools needed to respond to the parents’ physical, emotional and social needs following a stillbirth. Weinberg, Turner Bill Aimed to Protect Older Workers, Passes Labor Committee
Trenton – Recognizing that the State’s workforce is graying, and that current law is outdated and fails to protect older workers from age bias, the Senate Labor Committee passed legislation today sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg and Senator Shirley Turner that would amend laws on the books in order to extend age discrimination protections for State employees.
The amendments include the deletion of a provision dating back to 1938 that permits an employer to force retirement on an individual of a particular age if that employer can show that “age bears a manifest relationship to the employment in question.”

Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez, D-Middlesex, told NJ Advance Media she is rewriting legislation she introduced in February that would have made gender and race a primary factor in selecting who should sit on state boards. The new version of her bill will be more “aggressive” and mandate that women, minorities and LGBTQ people make up at least 50% of boards, commissions and task forces.

NJ Governor Phil Murphy on Friday signed the Healthy Terminals Act (S989) which creates new minimum wage and benefits requirements for certain Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Newark Liberty International Train Station workers. The legislation will expand access to livable wages and affordable health care for workers at the airport and train station who often cannot afford employer-provided health care plans.
“For a long time, we have heard the concerns and often desperate pleas from airport workers for access to affordable health care and for wages that allow them to support themselves and their families,” said Governor Murphy. “This legislation provides workers at Newark Airport the dignity, respect, and treatment that they deserve. These men and women have selflessly been serving through the COVID-19 pandemic as critical infrastructure workers, and I am proud to sign this legislation that will finally provide them with the health care
