From April 29 – May 5, the state reported 4,384 new COVID-19 cases, compared to 4,290 the week prior, a 2% increase. New COVID-19 cases have dropped 90% since the peak in mid-November.
There were 418 new people hospitalized with COVID-19 this week, the same as last week. New hospitalizations have dropped 74% since the peak back in mid-November.
The total COVID-19 inpatient population dropped from 351 to 331. The COVID-19 inpatient population has dropped 85% from the peak in mid-November.
ICU patients dropped from 112 to 99. The number of ICU patients has dropped 78% since the peak in mid-November.
In the past week, the state reported 56 new deaths, compared to 86 the week prior. The number of weekly deaths has dropped 87% since it peaked at 423 during the week ending on December 22nd.
Scott Fitzgerald. He’ll now serve a full five year term, set to expire in 2026.
In the months before and after the 2020 presidential election, Spindell frequently attempted to put his finger on the scale in favor of his party and indulged some of the figures spreading conspiracy theories and lies about the election.
Emails obtained by the
Wisconsin Examiner last fall showed that after the Green Party was denied access to the presidential ballot because of a technicality, Spindell offered party officials help finding a “good lawyer.”

Gov. Evers calls special election to fill vacant Assembly seat

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Gov. Tony Evers has called a special election to fill a vacant Assembly seat representing a swath of southeastern Wisconsin.
The governor issued an executive order Tuesday, April 27 scheduling the election in the 37th Assembly District for July 13. A primary will be held on June 15 if necessary.
The 37th Assembly District includes portions of Watertown, Waterloo and Columbus.
The seat came open after incumbent Republican John Jagler was elected to the Senate this month to fill former Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald’s seat. Fitzgerald left to join Congress.
