Chuck Schumer Asked About Trump Censure Ahead of Trial

By Josh FeldmanFeb 2nd, 2021, 3:47 pm Given the vote just last week questioning the constitutionality of the Donald Trump Senate impeachment trial, with only five Republicans siding with Democrats, there’s been some talk of pursuing censure as an alternative to conviction. Just last week Senator Susan Collinsto propose a resolution that would censure Trump instead. But the problem, as Kaine candidly acknowledged today, is that Republicans don’t support is “because they don’t want to bar Trump from running” in the future and that Democrats don’t support it “because for most of my colleagues it’s impeachment or nothing.”

Aurora wisely sidestepped sanctuary status

The Aurora City Council recently voted against two ordinances targeted at immigrants who have been accused or convicted of being in the country illegally. One would have made Aurora a sanctuary city. The other would have used city employees to create and operate a legal defense fund with a follow-on funding request of $50,000 of taxpayer money. Neither of these laws were in the best interest of the citizens of Aurora and were both defeated in a 6-5 vote. One in five Aurora residents was born in another country. The city has nearly 170 languages spoken in its schools. The great majority of these immigrants are in the USA legally. They have created entrepreneurial businesses, a huge number of jobs and wonderful ethnic restaurants. They have made Aurora among the most diverse cities in the nation.
