Presented by PL+US and Paid Leave For All With help from Renuka Rayasam and Tyler Weyant TIME KEEPS ON SLIPPING For the past few weeks, Democrats have comforted themselves about the slow clip of Joe Biden’s cabinet confirmations by noting he was on track to get all of his nominees confirmed. That solace now appears misplaced with Neera Tanden’s prospects of heading the Office of Management and Budget looking increasingly bleak. Alongside

Manchin flexes muscle in 50-50 Senate

Manchin flexes muscle in 50-50 Senate Alexander Bolton © AFP/Pool Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) Centrist Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) is the most pivotal vote in the evenly divided Senate, and his power could spark prolonged intraparty feuds among Democrats. Concerned about simmering friction, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday strongly urged his Democratic caucus to unify around a pending $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package. Manchin appears to have derailed President Biden s nominee to head the White House budget office, Neera Tanden, by announcing last week that he would vote against her because of sharp criticisms she leveled on Twitter against Senate colleagues. In a 50-50 Senate, Tanden now needs the backing of at least one Republican, and perhaps more, which appears unlikely.

Rush Limbaugh: A Conservative for the Ages

The debt that conservative Americans owe to Rush Limbaugh. The death of conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh this month has prompted exactly what he inspired in his life: praise and plaudits from conservatives; hate and rancor from liberals. Some of the comments from the left were so utterly tasteless and beyond the pale that it is hard to believe people with so large an ax to grind won’t simply stay silent instead of putting their ignorance and ignominy on public display. Even in death, Rush continued to cause liberals to hyperventilate. Take Hollywood liberal Bette Midler (please). Here’s her cogent comment on Rush’s death: “#Rush Limbaugh has gone to his reward. Bet it’s hot.”

The first 4 early states start scramble to lead 2024 primary calendar What is the difference between a primary and a caucus? Replay Video UP NEXT Before the not-so-subtle trips to the first voting states or the string of announcements from 2024 presidential hopefuls, a drawn-out clash is dividing the four early states down the middle. In Nevada, Democratic Assembly Speaker Jason Frierson introduced a bill last week to position the state at the front of the line. The maneuver could erode the decade-long détente between the privileged four, which wield outsize influence over the nominating contests, with Nevada and South Carolina angling for the top two positions occupied for nearly half a century by Iowa and New Hampshire.

Centrist Democrats flex muscles, create headaches for Biden - New Delhi Times - India s Only International Newspaper

February 23, 2021 Share A moderate Democratic senator from West Virginia is suddenly one of the most powerful people in Washington. Sen. Joe Manchin has had multiple one-on-one phone calls with President Joe Biden. He can send the White House into a tailspin with a single five-minute interview or three-sentence statement. And he may have already derailed some of the administration’s policy priorities and a Cabinet nominee. And it’s not just Manchin who’s wielding outsize influence over Biden’s agenda. With a 50-50 split in the Senate leaving little room for error on tough votes, other moderate Democrats like Sens. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona and Jon Tester of Montana also hold significant political clout in Biden’s Washington, making for a muscular counterweight to the progressives who make up the party’s base.
