The effort to recall Gavin Newsom officially has enough signatures to trigger an election, Secretary of State Shirley Weber confirmed Monday afternoon. As of April 26, there are 1,626,042 valid recall signatures, well over the 1.5 million needed to trigger an election.
Don t mark your calendars just yet, though. Next comes a 30 day withdrawal period where anyone can have their signature removed from the recall petition. To do so, voters have to submit the request to the county elections official where the voter lived at the time they signed the petition.

California lawmakers on Monday approved the last part of a COVID-19 economic recovery package, sending the governor a bill he supports that provides up to $6.8 billion in state tax breaks for California businesses.
Gov. Gavin Newsom and lawmakers negotiated the provisions of the bill, which allows businesses to avoid paying state taxes on forgiven loans from the federal Paycheck Protection Program and to deduct expenses paid for using the loan funds.
“AB 80 provides significant and immediate tax relief to California businesses devastated by the coronavirus pandemic,” said Assemblywoman Autumn Burke (D-Marina del Rey), the author of the bill approved Monday by the state Assembly a week after it was acted on by the Senate.

Group asserts years of public health cuts contributed to Solano’s, state’s Covid crisis

FAIRFIELD A coalition of public health associations, labor groups and other county political advocates said a decade of public health funding cuts inhibited the ability of Solano County and the state to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Covid-19 confirmed the worst fears of public health officials who have been warning that a decade of budget cuts would leave our workforce hollowed out and our infrastructure wiped out just when we needed it most,” Colleen Chawla, president of the California Health Executives Association of California and director of the Alameda County Health Care Services Agency, said in a statement released by California Can’t Wait.
