Message from Montpelier: Rep Lori Houghton

The Vermont cold settled in this weekend and weather models are showing a snowstorm (or two) for the week ahead. My son is already hoping for a snow day. A normal hope in our unnormal world. Take care of yourself while shoveling and remember to check on your neighbors.  My hope with this article is to bring you information from the Statehouse, but also provide updates on COVID related items and municipal efforts. If you or someone you know needs help during this difficult time, contact me at lhoughton@leg.state.vt.us and I will do my best to connect you with appropriate services. Please continue wearing masks, washing hands, and practicing physical distancing.

Vermonters 75 and older set to receive vaccine

Don t miss the big stories. Like us on Facebook.   Vermonters 75 and older are now eligible to make appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations, the Vermont Department of Health announced on Monday. Seniors in the age group can visit healthvermont.gov/MyVaccine to create an account on the state’s online portal, then log in to schedule their vaccination appointment. The state is encouraging friends and family members to assist seniors with this task, if necessary. A call center, reachable at 855-722-7878, opened at noon on Monday for anyone unable to register or who needs to speak with someone in a language other than English. The call center’s hours are 8:25 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays.

Scott to potential Statehouse protesters: Don t be played

Don t miss the big stories. Like us on Facebook.   MONTPELIER — Gov. Phil Scott on Tuesday urged would-be protesters not to be “used as pawns” by extremists if they choose to demonstrate at the Statehouse this weekend, and up to Inauguration Day. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is warning that groups are planning armed protests at all 50 state capitols and at the U.S. Capitol on Sunday, and potentially “storming” state, local and federal government courthouses and administrative buildings if President Donald Trump is removed before the inauguration, as well as on Inauguration Day, January 20. Vermont State Police, Capitol Police and local police departments are coordinating and preparing for “any eventuality,” Public Safety commissioner Michael Schirling reiterated Tuesday. Schirling said Monday there were no specific threats against the Statehouse.
