COVID-19 becomes political strategy for N.J. Dems | Letters
Updated Mar 03, 2021;
I believe that Democrats are using COVID-19 as a political tactic to increase government spending and government power.
The pandemic-related emergency borrowing by New Jersey state government last year turned out to be unnecessary. Also, they should have let the voters decide on this $4 billion of debt.
Now, the Democrats want to use this borrowed money that the state didn’t need, to increase government spending in the 2021-2022 state budget. They should send this money back to the lenders early without paying additional interest, but they made a deal with the lenders not to do this. State Senate President Stephen Sweeney, D-Gloucester, apparently wanted to make sure he could spend the money, no matter what.
