The United States Senate is set to confirm President Joe Biden’s nominee for ambassador to the United Nations this week, a major step in the administration’s drive to take a multilateral approach to foreign policy and mend Washington’s relationship with the international body.
While the country has held an outsized role at the UN since its inception in 1945 as the largest financial contributor to the organisation headquartered in New York City, relations sunk to a low point during former President Donald Trump’s term.

U.S. President Joe Biden did not call Benjamin Netanyahu for over a month after his inauguration due to the Middle East being moved down his list of priorities, according Danny Ayalon, Israel s ambassador to the United States from 2002-2006.
Ayalon, who got to know Joe Biden and his inner circle well during his time in the U.S., says he does not believe there was a technical reason why the president did not call Netanyahu, as was cited by official sources.

ISLAMABAD: Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed has lauded Pakistan Navy’s Maritime Diplomacy as an example of Pakistan’s soft power outreach and ability to bring 45 diverse countries and navies on a common platform of peace in the Indian Ocean Region.
He was delivering the keynote address at the International Maritime Conference organised by National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA), as part of the Pakistan Navy’s AMAN exercises.
Senator Mushahid appreciated Pakistan Navy’s positive regional role in peacetime, particularly anti-piracy operations and humanitarian help to victims of conflicts and natural disasters in the Indian Ocean Region. Referring to the geopolitical context, he talked about the resurgence of the ‘Asian Century’ with an inexorable shift in the global balance of economic & political power from the West to the East.
