(CNN) Rep. Joyce Beatty was arrested by US Capitol Police on Thursday afternoon after participating in a voting rights protest that culminated in a march inside the Senate Hart Office Building atrium. Beatty, the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, participated in a small rally alongside 12 activists outside.

Ohio Democratic Rep. Joyce Beatty was arrested by Capitol Police, hands zip-tied behind her back, while participating in a voting rights demonstration Thursday.
Beatty, who is chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, marched alongside civil rights advocates at the Hart Senate Office Building near the Capitol to protest a push to pass new restrictions on voting in states across the country. She posted a set of pictures to Twitter showing an officer zip-tying her hands together behind her back in the building s atrium with the caption Let the people vote. Fight for justice.
