Twitter Reacts to Georgia’s Historic Election Handing Democrats the Senate Jan 6, 2021
Georgia has been on the minds of Americans for weeks now. Both Democrats and Republicans anticipated Tuesday night and an historic runoff election that will decide which party controls the Senate. This morning, CNN projected that Democrat Rev. Raphael Warnock beat incumbent Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler in a tight race. Later in the day amid pro-Trump protesters invading the U.S. Capitol the second race was called, with Democrat Jon Ossoff s beating out Republican Sen. David Perdue in a tight race.
President-elect Joe Biden needed both seats in the Senate in order to enact key legislation in his administration. Winning both seats creates a 50-50 party split with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as the tie-breaking vote. GOP victory would have maintained Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell s standing. It appears that Democrats have won both Senate runoff races in Georgia. At time of writing Raphael Warnock had clearly beaten Kelly Loeffler by over 1 percent, and while Jon Ossoff had a lead of just 0.4 percent, most of the remaining votes are in heavily-Democratic regions. Senator-elect Reverend Raphael Warnock is very grateful to the people of Georgia, who he said sent a strong and clear message by handing him a win over incumbent Senator Kelly Loeffler in one of two state runoff elections Tuesday. They sent a person who grew up in public housing, one of 12 children in my family I m the first college graduate that I am serving in the United States Senate in a few days, pushes against the grain of so many expectations, he said on CBS This Morning Wednesday.

Okay, so the Senate is 50-50 now: With a Kamala Harris as Vice President tie-breaker, the Democrats are now in control of the Senate for the first time since 2007. Whew, talk about Democrats winning by the skin of their teeth. With the presidency, the House, and the Senate under Democratic control for the first time in 10 years, it seems like anything could be possible right?
All eyes are on the moderates: It s about to be Joe fucking Manchin s America. The second term West Virginian senator is the most conservative member of the Democratic party. He s against repealing the filibuster and doesn t like the idea of packing the courts. Republicans are hoping Manchin will switch parties.
