Senator Risa Hontiveros on Thursday, July 8 urged the Inter-Agency Task Force to accelerate its COVID-19 vaccination rollout to gain momentum against emerging new variants of the coronavirus.
Hontiveros lamented that the current pace of the national vaccination program in the country remained sluggish while more transmissible COVID-19 variants are fast developing.
She noted the IATF has yet to accomplish its own target though millions of Filipinos have already been inoculated.
“In the latest report, it is still far from the target of the number of population that needs to be protected. Even though the supplies are coming in as scheduled, the inoculation program still has yet to be fully implemented,” Hontiveros said.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) should commend the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel who are able to successfully drive away foreign vessels in the West Philippine Sea, saying congratulations are in order for these officers who bravely stood up for the country’s sovereign rigths, Senator Risa Hontiveros said on Tuesday, July 6.
“These acts of bravery should not go unnoticed. It’s not easy to fulfill this obligation, that’s why I hope they are given recognition each time they stand for the country,” Hontiveros said in a statement.
Earlier, the PCG’s BRP Cabra reportedly issued a radio challenge to five Chinese and two Vietnamese ships that were spotted in Marie Louise Bank.

Senator Risa Hontiveros on Friday renewed her appeal for the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) to continue providing the full 144 dialysis sessions this year as the country is still in a state of an emergency due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Hontiveros lamented many of the dialysis patients are now stopping treatment because the 90-day sessions provided for under PhilHealth is about to expire.
It could be recalled that in November 2020, the state health insurer extended its free dialysis coverage to 144, but it could only be availed of until December 31, 2020.
Patients complained that dialysis centers have refused to honor additional sessions due to the lack of implementing rules and regulations from PhilHealth.
