FireEye Discovered SolarWinds Breach While Probing Own Hack

After discovering the backdoor, FireEye contacted SolarWinds and law enforcement, Carmakal said. Hackers, suspected to be part of an elite Russian group, took advantage of the vulnerability to implant malware, which then found its way into the systems of SolarWinds customers when they updated their software. So far, more than 25 entities have been victimized by the attack, according to people familiar with the investigations. But SolarWinds says as many as 18,000 entities may have downloaded the malicious Trojan. There were signs in Washington on Tuesday afternoon that additional bombshells about the hack may be forthcoming. National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien cut short a trip to the Middle East and Europe to deal with the hack of U.S. government agencies. And Senator Richard Blumenthal, Democrat from Connecticut, said a classified briefing on “Russia’s cyber-attack left me deeply alarmed, in fact downright scared.”

I responded, I do not know what the president thought he was getting with Barr, but I know what he is getting. He is going t

Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook chief executive, recently said he supported updates to Section 230.Credit.Pool photo by Greg Nash Dec. 15, 2020 WASHINGTON For more than two decades, the tech industry had a cohesive message to Congress about a law that shields internet platforms from lawsuits: Don’t touch it. But now, as tech companies face intensifying attacks from political leaders, more of them are saying something else: Let’s work something out.

Republicans, Democrats React as Bill Barr Resigns: A Five-Alarm Fire

Republicans, Democrats React as Bill Barr Resigns: A Five-Alarm Fire On 12/15/20 at 3:54 AM EST Republicans and Democrats have responded to Attorney General William Barr s resignation with a mixture of praise, condemnation of his tenure and criticism of President Donald Trump. The president announced on Twitter on Monday that Barr would be stepping down as head of the Department of Justice before the Christmas holidays. Trump had recently levied criticism of Barr on social media. Washington, D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine called Barr s resignation a five alarm fire. The Democrat said Barr is getting out of the [getaway] vehicle because perhaps he does not want to be part of the next series of wrongful events. I am deeply concerned.
