It s this right to criticise and disagree with the decisions made by our leaders that creates the bedrock of democracy that we enjoy. Freedom of speech has become a phrase synonymous with many believing they can say whatever they want and get away with it, but it s actually not explicitly protected in the Australian constitution. What is recognised is a freedom of political speech which is protected from criminal prosecution. I cannot fathom why someone would question this right to speak truth to power. We re citizens, not slaves. We have the license to criticise our government officials, particularly the man in the top spot, without fear.
