California Governor Gavin Newsom is launching his own opposing petition to fight the recall campaign against him.
In an email sent from the governor s re-election campaign, Newsom s team rolled out a new effort to counteract the looming recall, writing, Join Stacey Abrams, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren: add your name to our NEW petition of Californians who say they OPPOSE the Republican Recall of Governor Gavin Newsom. The email included a link to a form in which people are asked to provide their names, email addresses and zip codes.

But there’s at least one indispensable aspect: the electrification of our energy system.
We can’t keep burning polluting coal, oil and/or gas to access the power which fuels our transportation vehicles, provides for heat in the winter and cooler air in the summer, and allows us to use electricity for all of our many devices, appliances and other power-using inventions. We must make a shift to getting all, or almost all, of that power from electricity generated by non-polluting energy sources like wind and solar.

Let the taxpayer beware: the recently proposed “For the 99.5 Percent Act” introduced by Senators Bernie Sanders and Sheldon Whitehouse would radically limit the ability of parents or grandparents to make annual exclusion gifts for their families.
Under present law, $15,000 per donee is excluded from taxable gifts. Gifts that are excluded do not count toward an individual’s lifetime exemption from gift or estate taxes. Gifts of $15,000 may be made to any one or more recipients, and married couples can effectively gift $30,000 to any person through the concept of gift splitting. For instance, a married couple with eight children could give $30,000 to each of their children in a single year transferring $240,000 of their estate without gift or estate tax implications.
United States President Joe Biden on Wednesday framed his planned withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan around the reason they were sent there in the first place: The September 11, 2001 attacks on the US.
“It is time to end America’s longest war,” Biden said during a speech in the White House Treaty Room.
“We went to Afghanistan because of a horrific attack that happened 20 years ago. That cannot explain why we should remain there in 2021.”
