41st Ordinary Session of the AU Permanent Representatives Committee

Official Opening of the PRC: The PRC meeting will be held through videoconference, the Opening ceremony will held be virtually on 20 January 2021, at 10:00 a.m. The opening ceremony will include among others, a statement by the Chairperson of the Commission and statement by the Chairperson of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC). Objectives: The PRC Session will discuss different reports including: the activities of the PRC Sub-Committees, Reports of the Specialized Technical Committees (STCs) held in the year 2020, Reports of the Commission, other AU Organs and the AU Specialized Agencies. The Session will also consider draft agenda and draft decisions of the 38th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council and agenda of the 34th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly, scheduled to take place 3 - 4 and 6 - 7 February 2021 respectively.

African Union Celebrates Outstanding Education Innovations Across Africa, Crowning 3 Winners

Share: December 29, 2020 Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: 21-22 December 2020: Three (3) outstanding education innovations were awarded grants of USD 60,000, 40,000 and 20,000 at the Innovating Education in Africa Pitch Event 2020. The grants will be used to undertake pilot projects in collaboration with African Union Member States. The innovations included: BAG - Building A Generation - A gamified platform that offers real-time access to experience-based learning for University students; Learnable - Teaching assistant that allows teachers to compose and distribute lessons via a dedicated mobile app and WhatsApp; Chalkboard Education - A remote teaching and learning toolkit aimed to help teachers and parents during the COVID-19 crisis.

Webinar on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Development in Africa

Objectives: · To assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on African SMEs, identifying the challenges they currently face and the potential solutions to be developed by the AU and partners to resolve them · To engage with RECs, Member States and private sector on how to increase the engagement and participation of SMEs in intra-African trade ahead of the start of trading of the AfCFTA · To discuss and chart a way forward regarding the support required to encourage domestication, advocacy and implementation of the AU SME Strategy · To strategically discuss how to strengthen partnerships and agree on joint work plans for 2021 and beyond in the area of SME development

AU signs MoU with EU s International Centre for Migration Policy Development

Share: December 13, 2020 The African Union Commission on Thursday, signed MoU with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) to enhance existing cooperation on Migration, and Mobility Governance between the two organisations. The Mou was signed by H.E. Mrs Amira Elfadil, Commissioner for Social Affairs on behalf of the Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mohamet, while Director General, Mr. Michael Spindelegger, signed on behalf of ICMPD. The Memorandum of Understanding is the result of continuous engagement, informed by the priorities and objectives of the African Union in an effort to improve political stability, enhance safety and security, advance social development and economic prosperity. Migration governance, particularly in the areas of the free movement of people, labour migration and mobility, trade, and remittances, amongst others is central to this effort.
