Ransomware attack targets major US logistics firm DSC

DSC Logistics, a third-party logistics provider and supply chain management firm near Chicago, was targeted in a ransomware attack, the company told FreightWaves.
DSC, which is owned by South Korean supply chain management conglomerate CJ Logistics, disclosed the cyberattack after a ransomware gang threatened to expose stolen data on a leak site. The firm specializes in consumer packaged goods and food logistics and helps large corporations manage internal supply chains.
Law enforcement agencies from several countries have teamed up in a coordinated effort against a ransomware called NetWalker. According to the US Department of Justice’s announcement, NetWalker was used to attack schools, hospitals, companies, government agencies and emergency services. NetWalker uses the ransomware-as-a-service model, wherein “developers” are in charge of creating and updating the ransomware for “affiliates.”
U.S. and Bulgarian authorities this week seized the darkweb site used by the NetWalker ransomware cybercrime group to publish data stolen from its victims. In connection with the seizure, a Canadian national suspected of extorting more than $27 million through the spreading of NetWalker was charged in a Florida court.
