Expanding access to telehealth services as the pandemic has forced more interactions into a virtual world is part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo s 2021 agenda, he announced on Sunday.
Cuomo s proposal will be part of his State of the State, to be given on Monday in a virtual setting at the state Capitol. While New York State has been on the cutting edge of promoting telehealth for its residents, the adoption of telehealth by both patients and providers has been slow, Cuomo said. COVID-19 has changed not only the way we live, but the way healthcare providers support their patients, especially in regard to mental health. In a scathing report, the city’s watchdog agency found there was excessive force and abuse of authority by the NYPD in the worst of the clashes between police and protesters in last summer George Floyd protests.
“We found some serious deficiencies here in the response,” said Margaret Garnett, commissioner of the city Department of Investigation.

“There s no evidence that people in the Republican party are going to perceive that whatever happened yesterday that Trump’s rhetoric and their allegiance to Trump of the last 4 years have somehow gone a bridge too far,” said Jim Henson, the director of the Texas Politics Project at the University of Texas at Austin.
“I think if that were the case, we would have seen different votes yesterday and we would see being different rhetoric responses today, and we aren t seeing that,” he said.
Republican politicians in Texas aren’t likely to pull back from the cultivation of a deep distrust in government elections, promoted by the president, after Wednesday’s eruption in violence in the Capitol, Henson said.
