Homebound Seniors Left Behind in Florida COVID Vaccine Plan

Report: Florida Overpaid for Troubled Unemployment System

The agency launched the latest review nearly 10 months ago at the directive of Gov. Ron DeSantis. The report found Florida Department of Economic Opportunity ultimately overpaid for its CONNECT unemployment system; a system that was not properly designed nor tested. “We determined that the requirements for system capacity, as outlined in the 2010 ITN, were never fully tested nor documented,” Inspector General investigators wrote in the preliminary report released Thursday. “The contract mandated system capacity for a minimum of 200,000 concurrent external users. We could not find evidence where DEO enforced this contract requirement. Deloitte’s stress testing documentation shows testing was for approximately 4,200 concurrent users (internal and external), the report continued. By not meeting contractual capacities, the CONNECT system was poorly positioned to handle unprecedented claim volume beginning in March/April 2020.”

Highway Superintendents Urge Lawmakers to Increase CHiPs

By Susan Arbetter New York State PUBLISHED 5:42 PM ET Mar. 03, 2021 PUBLISHED 5:42 PM EST Mar. 03, 2021 SHARE The state’s funding for the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Program, better known around the state capitol as CHiPs, hasn’t increased in 9 years. Joe Wisinski, president of the NYS County Highway Superintendents Association, told Capital Tonight that this year that funding must increase. CHiPs is the lifeblood of local infrastructure, he said. It’s been stagnant for 9 years, yet all the paving material that we use costs more now. Cuomo’s executive budget keeps CHiPS funding flat at $438 million.  NYSCHSA and other transportation groups are hoping to see lawmakers hike that by $150 million.

Pediatricians Group Urges Kids Return to School

Pediatricians Group Urges Kids Return to School PUBLISHED 5:38 PM ET Mar. 03, 2021 PUBLISHED 5:38 PM EST Mar. 03, 2021 SHARE There s a push across the country and here in New York to fully reopen schools. And the effort has the backing pediatricians who say kids need to be back in school.  As more COVID vaccine doses are rolled out, the hope is teachers will be among those getting their shots.  We need children back in classrooms, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said on Wednesday. Children not back in classrooms hurts the child, it hurts their socialization, it puts additional stress on the family. Elected officials from President Joe Biden to Cuomo want kids back in classrooms as the pandemic enters its second year. Pediatricians like Dr. Warren Seigel agree.
