1. Days numbered?Sam Darnold s chances of returning in 2021 seemed to improve with the hiring of coach Robert Saleh, who spoke of the quarterback in glowing terms (privately to friends as well). Now, 46 days before the 2021 NFL draft, those chances appear to be fading.
General manager Joe Douglas all but posted a For Sale sign when he recently admitted he is open to fielding trade inquiries. Since then, nothing has changed with regard to Darnold. The Jets are listening. This month, Douglas will be a fixture on the QB/pro day circuit. It kicked off Friday at North Dakota State, where he scouted Trey Lance, a likely top-10 pick.

NEW YORK (AP) The New York Jets announced the creation of an Athletic Care and Performance Department that will focus on improving the players’ overall health, nutrition and training after injuries plagued the team the last few seasons.
Dr. Brad DeWeese will oversee the new department, which the team said in a release Thursday will help “align the club’s athletic performance staffs to better position players for success.”
DeWeese was most recently the assistant athletic director for sports performance at East Tennessee State. He was also the head of sports physiology at the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Winter Division, helping athletes win 21 Olympic and world championship medals.

Good morning, GGN! I hope you’re all having a great start to the day. Joe Douglas will personally be attending NDSU’s Pro Day today, and one big name is on that list. That is Trey Lance, the star quarterback. Lance is admittedly more of a ‘raw’ prospect, but he could have the most potential out of any quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft. While I personally don’t expect the Jets to go after Lance, Joe Douglas is doing what he does best - due diligence. It’s a common theme under the regime of Joe Douglas, as he doesn’t seem to leave any stone unturned. It’s shown to disgruntle some players, but as a General Manager it’s what you want out of the position. After a thorough review of our sports performance areas, it became clear that in order to maximize our player s health, safety and effectiveness on the field, we needed to establish a centralized group that would better position our team for success, said Jets GM Joe Douglas.
