KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 16 Allegations that a contract has been issued to construct a multipurpose hall in Pagoh, Johor, for RM35 million were false and malicious, the Prime Minister’s Office said today. Pagoh is the constituency of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. The PMO said that the funds were, in fact, for three such halls in Johor: one in Tangkak costing RM13 million and two in Muar that cost a total of RM22.4 million.

The council s Performance Management & Delivery Unit (Pemandu) committee chairman Tun Hanif Omar said the department should relieve itself from its role in handling the issuance of halal certificates. Saying that Jakim should face action for its negligence , Hanif said the Veterinary Services Department (DVS) should also face similar action for its alleged failure to improve the local ruminant industry.

PPP in healthcare should be private-based

In this country, renowned economist Dr Jomo K Sundaram has been an outspoken critic of the excesses and extremities of PPP. On the other side, the Malaysian Health Coalition, which represents both the private sector and civil society, for example, has called for a robust PPP to combat the Covid-19 epidemic as part of a whole of government and society coordination. PPP, in principle, represents the strategic synergy between the public and private sectors that cuts across the entire spectrum of industries and supply-chains. Cooperation and collaboration between the two are meant to be a win-win situation.
