Aside pushing Nigeria into the inglorious index as the capital of poverty in the World about two years ago, the President has serially failed to adopt proactive and workable strategic defence mechanisms to protect and defend Nigeria and Nigerians from external infiltrators and internal insurgents. Nigeria has also become the third most terrorised nation in the World.
What’s new? In 2019, Nigerian authorities launched a ten-year National Livestock Transformation Plan to curtail the movement of cattle, boost livestock production and quell the country’s lethal herder-farmer conflict. But inadequate political leadership, delays, funding uncertainties and a lack of expertise could derail the project. COVID-19 has exacerbated the challenges.
Why did it happen? Violence fuelled by environmental degradation and competition over land has aggravated long-running tensions in the country’s northern and central regions. The student of Kings College in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Kelvin Eze, who was kidnapped by gunmen that attacked the school, has regained freedom.
Spokesman for Operation Safe Haven, Major Ibrahim Shittu, in a statement on Sunday said Eze was rescue by the troops on Saturday.
Recall that during the attack on the school on Thursday, the gunmen abducted two students but one of them was rescued after a gun battle with security operatives.
The statement said, “Troops of Operation Safe Haven on Saturday, May 1, 2021, around 8.35pm rescued a student of Kings College, Mr Kelvin Eze who was kidnapped by bandits on April 28, 2021.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, yesterday raised alarm over frequent attacks on its offices nationwide, saying this could derail the 2023 general elections.
The alarm followed yesterday’s attack on its office in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Troops of the Operation Safe Haven on Saturday, 1 May 2021 at about 0835pm rescued a kidnapped Student of Kings College Gana Ropp Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, said Media Officer Major Shittu Ibrahim. This was achieved through the sustained search and rescue operation by the troops, without payment of ransom, Ibrahim added. The rescued student who is hale and hearty has since been reunited with other students in the college.
