Te Pūnaha Ātea-Auckland Space Institute, based at the University of Auckland, has joined with Rocket Lab and a team of the country’s leading atmospheric and remote-sensing researchers on New Zealand’s first space mission funded by the Government.
Research, Science and Innovation Minister Dr Megan Woods announced the partners working with the New Zealand Space Agency and leading global environmental NGO the Environmental Defense Agency on the MethaneSAT mission at the Rocket Lab headquarters in Auckland today. (Friday 23 April)

WELLINGTON, April 23 (Xinhua) New Zealand government Friday announced that Auckland Space Institute of Auckland University will become the permanent host of the New Zealand-based mission control center for a global methane tracking satellite. MethaneSAT is a really exciting opportunity to showcase New Zealand s science and research expertise on the world stage, while making a significant contribution to climate change by mapping agricultural emissions of greenhouse gases, Research, Science and Innovation Minister Megan Woods said in a statement on Friday. The clinic will reopen May 13-15 to administer second doses of the vaccine to those who received the first dose at the April event. Individuals should only sign up for an April appointment if they know they are able to return to the clinic three weeks later to receive their second dose.
