CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The outdoor rodeo Cheyenne Frontier Days will continue as planned this year after being forced to cancel last year during the coronavirus pandemic.
Republican Gov. Mark Gordon and Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins joined Cheyenne Frontier Days CEO Tom Hirsig on Wednesday during a news conference to make the official announcement, the Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported.
Frontier Days is a rodeo and western festival in July that draws about 200,000 attendees each year. Its website calls it the world’s largest outdoor rodeo which features competing professionals, behind-the-chutes tours, trick riding, a wild-horse race and other activities.

People who lived in Cheyenne 45 years ago may remember the old Cheyenne Frontier Days theme song playing on the radio: “Cheyenne Frontier Days, here we go again. A big Wyoming showdown where the cowboy is the king.”
You could say the event is even more special now because the largest outdoor rodeo in the world was canceled for the first time in 124 years in 2020 due to the pandemic. But it’s roaring back in 2021 for its 125th anniversary.
Gov. Mark Gordon made the announcement on Wednesday alongside Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins and Frontier Days CEO Tom Hirsig that the “Daddy of ‘Em All” is not only back, but at 100% capacity.

WATCH: Cheyenne Mayor Goes to Work Patching Potholes
Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins on Thursday got a taste of what city crews deal with when he joined Street and Alley Manager Randy Hickman to patch potholes.
Collins and Hickman filled a concrete pothole at the intersection of W. 20th Street and Pioneer Avenue and numerous asphalt potholes along Snyder Avenue on the south side.
For the concrete they have a special bag of mix that bonds with the concrete and makes for a stable patch, said Collins. It was fascinating to watch the mix work.
Get our free mobile app For asphalt, we have two treatments, Collins added. Our cold mix that comes from our patch truck, and a bag product called Unique Patch Material (UPM) Winter Blend Cold Mix that our testing showed works great in Cheyenne.
