Respite came for 27 students abducted by bandits from Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna, as they gained their freedom yesterday after 56 days in captivity. The students were released in Kindanda village, Giwa local government area of the state.
The release was reportedly facilitated by the Sheikh Abubakar Gumi dialogue committee with support from former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The students were among the 39 abducted two months ago. After payment of ransom by parents and the school management, the bandits had last month released 10 of the victims while two others escaped from captivity.

Some bandits have invaded Mahu village in Gwagwada ward of the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing two and kidnapping scores of the people of the area.
The bandits also attacked and razed the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church in the area
The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, in a statement said said13 of those kidnapped were rescued by the troops of Operation Thunder Strike.
He gave the identity of those killed as Ezekiel Iliya and Nasara Yohanna, whom he claimed were volunteers, adding, “After the operations, the troops discovered that the bandits had shot two volunteers before their arrival.”

In a major assault on bandits terrorising some parts of Niger State for some time now, the police in the state at the weekend neutralised six of the bandits and injured many others.
The police operation against the criminals took place at Garkogo in the Shiroro Local Government Area of the state at the weekend.
In the battle, which eyewitnesses said lasted for several hours, the injured bandits reportedly fled into the bush leaving behind their operational motorcycles.
The bandits were said to have shot and killed a villager before the policemen engaged them in the fierce gun battle at about 3:30 am last Saturday.

In what was described as a major assault on bandits that have been terrorising parts of Niger State for some time, the police at the weekend killed six of the bandits and injured many others.
The police operation took place at Garkogo in Shiroro Local Government Area of the state last Saturday.
In the faceoff, which eyewitnesses said lasted several hours, the injured bandits reportedly fled into the bush leaving behind their operational motorcycles.
