Canadian minister faces backlash for Barbados vacation

A Canadian politician is in hot water over his decision to holiday in Barbados for the Christmas season while at the same time urging Canadians to stay at home and resist the urge to travel.
According to reports by the Canadian Press, Pierre Arcand of the Quebec Liberal MNA party was spotted on the island’s west coast with his wife, after issuing repeated requests not to travel during the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, the province of Ontario is currently in lockdown because of widespread COVID-19 cases.
Defending his decision, the Canadian politician said he was COVID-free and he felt comfortable in Barbados which had managed to control the spread of the viral illness.

Sandals Barbados Resort and Spa will remain off the list of certified quarantine properties until the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MHW) is satisfied that its management is willing and able to correct a continuous breach of national COVID-19 protocols.

In a press release issued late on Tuesday, December 29, regarding the delisting of Sandals Barbados Resort and Spa as a designated quarantine hotel, it was stated that police had held three tourists for alleged breaches of COVID -19 protocols related to quarantine.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness would like to categorically state that these persons were not associated in any way with the Sandals Barbados Resort and Spa, and regrets that this might have been implied in the release.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness today issued a statement in relation to a previous press release regarding Sandals Barbados Resort and Spa.
“In a press release issued late on Tuesday, December 29, regarding the delisting of Sandals Barbados Resort and Spa as a designated quarantine hotel, it was stated that police had held three tourists for alleged breaches of COVID -19 protocols related to quarantine.
