It s ludicrous : Female GP takes on government over parental leave inequality
When Perth GP Sarah Bailey started making plans for a family she looked into the government s parental leave scheme and was stunned to discover she wouldn t be entitled to a cent.
While Dr Bailey earns slightly more than the $150,000 cut off for the government s 18-week Parental Leave Pay, her partner is currently studying and on a very low income.
But because eligibility for the scheme is tied only to the mother s income, with the father s making no difference at all, neither Dr Bailey nor her husband are entitled to Parental Leave Pay.

As we prepare for the gradual repopulation of campus, we know there are many questions regarding summer and fall operations. We are also excited to unveil the new Paid Parental Leave benefit for staff and the Alternate Work Location Arrangement Pilot Program.
On Monday, May 3, Human Resources will host an open Zoom Question and Answer session with Provost Sally McRorie, Vice President for Finance & Administration Kyle Clark, and Dr. Daniel Van Durme, chair of the FSU Medical Advisory Committee. This meeting is a prime opportunity to hear updates on the University’s campus repopulation plan.

In order to encourage more parents to take parental leave, the Dutch government has launched a new scheme for nine weeks of paid leave, which will be paid for by the government.
Dutch government working to encourage more parents to take leave
For the past few years, the government has been working to encourage more parents to take leave and to extend the parental leave available to them. Since 2019, partners have been entitled to a full week of paid parental leave, a significant increase compared to the meagre two days they received before. Since last summer, partners have also been granted an additional five weeks of leave at 70 percent pay.
