Show Transcript It s amazing because it s pride month and it s the 52nd anniversary of still in law. So it s a special moment for my community when Catalonia enrique is was crowned Miss Nevada USA on Sunday night she made history then the first trans woman and trans women of color and it s time that our voices are heard. Enrique is will also be the first trans woman to compete in Miss Usa in the fall where she ll represent Nevada representation of the trans community is something that Enrique is feel strongly about only recently being able to compete, insists gender pageants herself. When I was young, I I said that one day I hope to see someone like me on stage and Miss Usa and it just happened to be I was the person that I needed. Selena McAtee

A transgender woman has won the Miss Nevada USA title for the first time in the pageant’s history. Kataluna Enriquez now advances to represent the state in the national Miss USA competition scheduled for November 29.

“One thing that is important for me is inclusivity, diversity and representation. It’s something I did not have growing up and is still lacking in today’s world,” said Enriquez. “Today I am a proud transgender woman of color. Personally, I’ve learned that my differences do not make me less than, it makes me more than.”

A transgender woman became the first person in pageant history to take home the title of Miss Nevada USA in a monumental step for the LGBTQIA community.
On Sunday, Kataluna Enriquez, 27, bested 21 other contestants to win the crown which was held at the South Point Hotel Casino & Spa in Las Vegas. In addition, she will be the first openly transgender woman to compete for the title of Miss USA. Congratulations to our new Miss Nevada USA @mskataluna History made!
