Rob Lloyd, 57, who also appeared in the Channel Four show The Secret Millionaire, was diagnosed with lymphoma two years ago.
Educational visit from deaf sailor teaches Pontefract pupils about hearing loss
As part of ‘Deaf Awareness Week’, pupils at The Rookeries Carleton Junior, Infant & Nursery School received a virtual visit from British sailor, Gerry Hughes.
Gerry was the first profoundly deaf British sailor to sail single-handedly across the Atlantic Ocean.
During the visit the pupils learned about Gerry’s achievements and watched his documentary, Silent Odyssey.

Improving their understanding of what deaf and hard of hearing customers experience

To commemorate Deaf Awareness Week (3 -9 May) colleagues from Metro Bank’s Hemel Hempstead store undertook a number of exercises to improve their understanding of what deaf and hard of hearing customers experience.
In the UK, there are over ten million people living with some form of hearing loss, whether mild or profound.
Metro Bank prides itself on being the UK’s Best Community Bank and works hard to support all its local communities.

Children from Alexandra Park primary school marked Deaf Awareness Week last week.
The children at the school were introduced to sign language during an assembly.
In classes they discussed how it felt to be deaf and looked at some of the challenges.
The children were already a little aware of sign language following successful performances from Y3 of poetry using sign language and the inclusion of sign language in their songs during the annual Singing Square (a singing event where the whole school learns music to share).
PSHE Leader Samantha Nicholson-Hickling said: It s so important the children learn about different languages.
