As part of Nurses Appreciation Week, 23ABC wanted to make sure we took a moment to thank and recognize nurses right here in our community for their hard work, compassion, and dedication to their job.
A Texas School is One of the Most Affordable for Nursing
It s Nurses Appreciation Week, and a Texas school has earned a ranking as one of the most affordable places in the country to earn a distinguished degree in nursing. And it can be done online.
Nurses week started on Thursday, May 6th, and runs through Wednesday, May 12th, and stores and restaurants around East Texas have been offering freebies and discounts to healthcare workers to say thanks. And, nurses can get free Crocs this week too. The typical nurse walks five miles in a 12-hour shift, and there are plenty of places this week that will offer some help along the way, whether it s free shoes, extra carbs, or a boost of caffeine.

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Many East Texans were celebrating their mothers Sunday. Local business owners said theyâve seen a huge difference when it comes to customers purchasing items for their mothers this year compared to last year.
In the days leading up to Sunday, Susie Carroway at Aleneâs Florist and Justin Kezar at Grandough Baking Company said business has been nonstop.
âWeâve had probably double our walk-in traffic,â Carroway said. âOur sales have been wonderful. A lot of fresh floral vases. Weâre selling a lot of our gift items to go with it.â

We know there are plenty of times when it seems too hard to go on teaching remotely during a pandemic has been especially draining but know that milions of people like us are behind you, appreciating you and cheering you on.
