SEVIERVILLE â The Sevier County Sheriffâs Office has charged a Strawberry Plains woman with aggravated child abuse after she allegedly admitted to severely injuring her 11-month-old daughter.
Samantha Paige Roberts, 23, of 4546 Winslow Drive in Strawberry Plains, told detectives she âpushed (her daughterâs) head down into the floor several times until she went lifeless,â according to Detective Jim Huddleston.
Detectives learned about the incident Saturday, after getting a call from a local hospital, where the child was being treated.
Roberts was home alone with the child that day; her husband was at work, according to the warrant.
The warrant does not say whether Roberts gave investigators any explanation for her actions.

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. UPDATE (10 p.m.): Officials said that two people were charged in connection with a reported armed shooter incident at a Walmart in Sevierville on Wednesday.
They said that Pedro Salisipan Ngayan, 65, from Pigeon Forge, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault. Dashawn Leon Bonner, 22, from Pensacola, Florida, was charged with one count of misdemeanor assault.
