Resolving Litigations in Oil Industry

The introduction of Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanism into the Nigeria oil and gas industry will held address conflicts amongst industry players, writes Peter Uzoho Last Thursday, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in collaboration with stakeholders across the upstream, midstream and downstream value chains of the Nigeria oil and gas industry formerly activated the Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre (ADRC) in Lagos. The ADRC is one of the five flagship centres of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Excellence Centre (NOGEC) flagged off in January by President Muhammadu Buhari. ADRC is a veritable settlement platform in which oil and gas players in Nigeria can voluntarily approach to resolve their disputes in a more amicable, cost efficient and time saving manner, instead of going to courts.

Sylva moves to avert looming strike threatening Chevron s 140,000 bpd output

By Nathan Nwakamma Yenagoa, April 14, 2021 Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has taken steps to avert an impending industrial action at Agbami Offshore Oilfield operated by Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL). Mr Lumumba Okugbawa, General-Secretary of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), said this in a telephone conversation with Naija247news on Wednesday in Yenagoa. Okugbawa said that Sylva had scheduled a meeting with leadership of the union for Thursday, to find a lasting solution to the industrial disharmony. PENGASSAN had threatened to down tools and shutdown the deep offshore facility over moves by Chevron to cut its workforce by 25 per cent amongst other issues.

Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) says it has suspended it proposed strike over Chevron Nigeria Limited’s plan (CNL) to lay off 600 workers at the Agbami Offshore Oilfield in Bayelsa. Mr Lumumba Okugbawa, General-Secretary of PENGASSAN made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Yenagoa. Okugbawa told NAN that the strike had been put on hold following a truce with company’s management on April 15. According to him, the leadership of PENGASSAN and management of CNL reached an agreement over the matter, making the proposed strike unnecessary.
