Back in 1960, three Chevrolet Corvettes were charged with running the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Even though Ferrari won that race, those cars are still among the most “historically significant” Corvettes ever produced. After disappearing from the radar in 1974, Car #1 of the three (which retired from the race after an accident in the 32nd lap) was eventually found in 2011 at an estate sale. Of the three cars, this is the only one that wasn’t fully restored, and is going up for auction as it was found in 2011 by
Sotheby’s. If you’re interested in a historically relevant Corvette with “several layers of peeling paint,” a “non-functioning engine from a 1970 Corvette,” and “a replacement roof,” then this is the car for you…and you can expect to pay between $900K and $1.3 million according to auction estimates.
The 2020 Corvette Stingray is the first mid-engine version of the all-American sports car. Fox News Autos Editor Gary Gastelu found out if it it has what it takes to compete with the world s best.
One of the most historically significant Chevrolet Corvettes is heading to auction at the RM Sotheby s event at Amelia Island, Fla., in May and expected to pull in a high price, even though it doesn t run. Actually, that has something to do with it. (RM Sotheby s)
The 1960 Corvette was one of three that were entered in the 1960 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans by famed racer Briggs Cunningham.

The Porsche 935 is one of the most successful and iconic race cars ever built. But it stopped racing sometime in the 1980s and it s rarely taken out of collectors garages nowadays. Fortunately, the folks over at Canepa Motorsport fielded one at the Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion and recorded 25 minutes of footage on the Laguna Seca. 1 photo
Since these race cars are rare and expensive, most of us will never get to drive one. So this is our best chance at getting up and personal with the mighty 935. There s plenty of in-car footage too, so we get a cool POV of Bruce Canepa running hot laps at Laguna Seca as he moves from 35th to first position. Seeing this 1979 Porsche 935 take on the legendary Corkscrew turn is pure awesomeness.
This has to be the best Corvette collection we ve ever seen.
It s not uncommon for Chevrolet Corvettes to sell for big bucks. The first 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray that rolled off the production line sold for a staggering $3 million at a charity auction, and yet it won t ever be driven. Likewise, the final C7 Chevrolet Corvette ever built sold for $2.7 million. Corvette fans may want to keep an eye on this month s Mecum Auctions Rick Treworgy s Muscle Car City 2021 event, where one owner s cherished Corvette collection will be going up for sale.
As many as 200 cars from the Muscle Car City Museum in Punta Gorda, Florida, will be sold at the event, most of which are Chevrolets including 48 Corvettes spanning multiple generations.
