The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have now both approved use of the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 12 and up.
What does that mean for tweens and teens in the Philadelphia area? Here’s what parents and kids need to know.
What did the Pfizer clinical trials of 12 to 15 year olds find?
During the clinical trials, about 1,200 children received a placebo, while another 1,200 children received an active vaccine. None of the children who received an active vaccine contracted COVID-19, meaning they were 100% protected from infection.
When: Octorara Area School District board meeting via Zoom, May 10.
What happened: Superintendent Michele Orner gave a health and safety update to the board outlining upcoming changes expected when Gov. Tom Wolf issues new COVID-19 guidelines to go in effect May 31.
Background: The governorâs guidelines are expected to eliminate most restrictions with the exception of masking.
Quotable: âChester County Health Department is not expected to be stricter,â Orner said.
Why itâs important: Orner explained that if things go as expected, the district will be able to eliminate quarantining, reporting cases to the health department, distancing requirements and limiting the size of gatherings. Masks will not be required during recess and physical education classes, but they will still be required in classrooms. DELAWARE COUNTY, PA Kids 12 and older can now get the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine in Delaware County, officials said Thursday.
The announcement comes on the heel s of the CDC s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice recommendation of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for those ages 12 to 15.
Delaware County is now offering the Pfizer vaccine at select walk-in and drive-thru clinic locations starting Thursday.

The Pfizer vaccine will be available without the need for an appointment to everyone 12 and older at Springfield Hospital, 190 Sproul Road in Springfield, on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Union Ave, the garden is the first of what Chief Anthony Chachi Paparo hopes will be six or seven in the community. As part of its effort to ensure every eligible Chester County resident who chooses to have a COVID-19 vaccine is able to receive one, the Chester County Health Department has partnered with local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies to schedule at-home vaccine appointments for those who are unable to attend a vaccine clinic.

Through the partnership, advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics are deployed to administer either Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine to individuals in their home setting. Caregivers for the individuals are also offered the vaccine, if needed.
