The family of a Fair Acres Geritratic Center resident who died of pneumonia associated with COVID-19 in June has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the facility and Delaware County. The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania by attorney Stephen J. Pokiniewski on behalf of Christopher Beaty Jr. and Nichole Garcia, alleges the county failed to design or enact policies to limit the spread of the virus in the county-run facility, leading to the death of 63-year-old Christopher Beaty Sr. after he was exposed to COVID-19 through his roommate. âThe matter has been referred to our insurance company for review,â said county Solicitor Bill Martin. âThe county takes any such allegations very seriously and will review the facts to make sure that Fair Acres continues
WEST GOSHENâA return to remote learning is in effect for several secondary grade levels in the West Chester Area School District.
All Henderson High School ninth graders, Stetson Middle School seventh and eighth graders and Fugett Middle School eighth graders will temporarily switch to remote instruction due to COVID-19.
Henderson ninth graders and Stetson seventh graders will return Monday and Stetson and Fugett eighth graders will return to in-person instruction on Tuesday.Â

An April 21 letter from Superintendent Dr. Jim Scanlon and Fugett Middle School Principal Tony Small notified parents and families that all Fugett eighth graders, including Special Education students, would temporarily stay away from school buildings and instead learn remotely from Thursday, April 22 through Monday, April 26. Similar letters were sent to Henderson and Stetson parents.
The primary election on May 18 will be extremely important for parents. Along with the three questions pertaining to a constitutional amendment that would reign in a governorâs emergency powers, there are contentious school board races all across the region.
For the last year, parents, children, science, and common sense have been pushed aside by many incumbent school board members who obstinately kept our schools closed. This primary is the opportunity for parents to send those incumbents who failed our children packing and to ensure that we are not faced with closures again in the fall.

Woods implored her students to email her their drafts. “I love to read what you guys write,” she said.
Coronavirus Coverage The classroom at Pottstown Middle School was quiet. Most of Woods’ students don’t speak aloud during class, instead typing questions in the chat. Keeping them engaged is a struggle: On a recent Thursday, one student logged out after 30 seconds. Another joined 26 minutes after class began.
